Matrix Gemini LIMS is the probably the most configurable information management software available. The key to its success is the set of configuration tools that are supplied with the Matrix software. The configuration tools mean that the software can be configured to match the requirements of your specification rather than trying to match them to a pre-configured template. A template will provide a partial match to your specific requirements but then needs further coding to customize it to meet your complete requirements.
Another advantage of the Matrix configuration tools is that no coding is involved during the configuration process. This means that the initial implementation can be achieved quickly by one of our configurators to meet the requirements of your specification; some of our customers have configured their own systems. It also means that after the initial installation the system can be configured further, by system administrators or key users, to keep their system in step with changes in work processes and operational requirements in the future. Changes to screen layout do not require new code to be written, you just add the new features using the configuration tools. The system configuration is stored separately so when the core system is updated with the latest version of software the existing configuration can immediately be applied to the updated version.
You should be wary of any code that is written specifically for your system as you will not know if it works with the next software release. If it does not work you will need to have the code re-written to reinstate the functionality.
The configuration tools extend the life of the software and reduce the overall lifetime cost.
